Getting Involved

We need you to be involved! Please consider joining the neighborhood association nearest you. We can accomplish far more when we join together. WORKING TOGETHER WORKS! Block watches can be informal or they can be formal.   Contact Sgt. Bev Leary at the Lima Police Department, 419-227-4444 or Chief Dep. Everett at the Allen County Sheriff’s Dept., 419-227-3535.

Not everyone wants to get involved in the same way, but that's okay. LACNIP offers a variety of ways to be involved. Check out some of them below.

Block Watch or Patrol:

What's the difference between block watch and block patrol?
The answer is really quite simple. Block watch is simply nieghbors knowing their neighbors and people watching out for each other. When you see something unusual or out of the ordinary in your neighborhood, you call the police or sheriff's department. Block watches can be formal organizations, or they can be formal. If you would like to have more information on starting a formal block watch organization in your neighborhood, contact Sgt. Ron Conner at the Lima Police Department (phone number 419-221-5262) or Lt. Tom Myers at the Allen County Sheriff's Department (phone number 419-227-3535).

Block Patrol involves neighbors organizing and walking or driving their neighborhoods. They look for crime problems and neighborhood decay, then report what they see to the proper authority. It is never the job of block patrol to take an active enforcement role when they observe crime or other problems, but they act as community eyes and ears, identifying the problems and where they exist. Riverside North Neighborhood Association has the most experienced block patrol in LACNIP. They are in their 9th year of block patrolling. If you would like to get involved in block patrolling for your area, contact your neighborhood association.
